“

I’m not concerned with the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich, they’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the very heart of the America, the 90 percent, 95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling.

The challenge right now — we will hear from the Democrat party the plight of the poor. And there’s no question it’s not good being poor and we have a safety net to help those that are very poor . . . My focus is on middle income Americans … we have a very ample safety net and we can talk about whether it needs to be strengthened or whether there are holes in it. but we have food stamps, we have Medicaid, we have housing vouchers, we have programs to help the poor.

Tumblr tips

last updated: 7 March 2012

Here are some useful extensions, scripts, and tutorials for Tumblr. Scripts require a simple, one click install for Google Chrome. Firefox users may need to download Greasemonkey first before installing scripts.

As far as I know, these scripts/extensions can work together.

I’ll add more links as I think of them, and feel free to share your own tips or resources.

Popular:

  • Missing E - Probably the most popular Tumblr extension. Features: one click reblog/queue/drafts, automatically clears all tags when reblogging, adds tags to ask/reply, allows one click reply to comments, shuffle queue, adds timestamp to posts on your dashboard, replaces text (reblog, notes) with picture icons, reblog asks, and more. Downside: Tumblr apparently hates Missing E, and will try to scare you into disabling it.
  • Xkit - Similar to Missing E. Some additional features: Unfollower check, shortens long posts on dashboard, highlight key terms in posts, download mp3 from audio posts.
  • Tumblr Savior - Blacklist tags that you do not want to see on your dashboard. Downside: Not everyone tags.

Some selections from a larger collection of scripts (please note that I don’t use all of these, so I don’t know which ones still work):

  • Tumblr Life - Quick links to sort your dashboard by content (photos, text, quotes, video, etc), adds keyboard shortcuts.
  • Tumblr Hate - Do you keep seeing the same post reblogged in your dashboard? This script lets you “hate” that post so you won’t see it again.
  • Tumblr Helper - Create post templates with common settings, add personal notes to users on your dashboard
  • Tumtaster - download mp3s from tumblr
  • Notification eraser - Maybe you have one post that keeps getting a ton of notes and you want the notifications to stop showing up in your dash.
  • Tumblr Stats - hover over an avatar to see a user’s stats
  • Block posts by source - self-explanatory
  • Don’t Ask - gets rid of ask posts on your dashboard
  • Make avatars bigger on your dashboard
  • Unfollower check
  • Edit tags from your dash

Liberalism is caring about as many people as possible. Conservatism is caring about the fewest people possible. And liberals are the bad guys? LOL.

“We too have been seduced by the false assumption that the goal of academic freedom is best served by postures of political neutrality, by teaching methods that belie the reality that our very choice of subject matter, manner, and style of presentation embodies ideological and political signifiers. Assuming this posture, there are black professors at Yale and other universities who feel it essential that they do not call attention to race and/or racism, who feel that they should behave always in a manner that deemphasizes race. This is extremely tragic. Such behavior in no way serves the interest of academic freedom. Instead it participates in the construction of a social reality wherein conformity to a racist, white male norm of representation prevails, where difference and diversity are assaulted, denied place and value. Academic freedom is most fully and truly realized when there is diversity of intellectual representation and perspective. Racism has always threatened the realization of this ideal. Rather than become accomplices in the perpetuation of racial domination, black scholars who value academic freedom must continually work to establish spheres of learning in institutions where intellectual practice is not informed by white supremacy. If such a place cannot or does not exist, we betray the radical traditions that enabled us to enter these institutions and act in a manner that will uphold and support our exclusion in the future. It is our collective responsibility both to ourselves as black people and to the academic communities in which we participate and to which we belong, to assume a primary role in establishing and maintaining academic and social spaces wherein the principles of education as the practice of freedom are promoted.” —bell hooks, “on being black at yale: education as the practice of freedom”; Talking Back: Thinking Feminist, Thinking Black; (1989); (p. 64-65).
